This is a story about finding peace for one's soul in the midst of a battle with PTSD. This is not a story about the war- my war, my father's war, his father's war, or your war. This is a story about healing--physical, mental, and spiritual. This story is about warriors and the wounds they suffered from war, primarily those of a physiological nature. Those wounds, in many cases, were then inflicted upon others who became indirect war victims. This ia a story about those wounds. This is a story about a few warriors and how they have dealt with their wounds-- Some seeking treatment, some not. This is a story about the treatment process and the caregivers who are a part of that process. This is a story about hope, accomplishment, and a future, and is also a story about reality-- the reality that treatment doesn't always mean cure, the reality that treatment may mean acceptance of reality and learning to manage and cope with that reality. This is a story about opportunity through acknowledgement of conditions and events outside of the experienced trauma that can significantly influence the presence and severity of behavioral reactions, which can become diagnosed as trauma-related disorders or symptoms, and acceptance of an altered mental health condition resulting from uninvited exposure to trauma.
