Agapi & Other Kinds of Love is hip-hop historical fiction: an epic verse novel set in modern and ancient Athens. Socrates is speaking to the guests of a banquet, telling them everything he's learned from a mysterious lover named: Diotima. The gods then collapse time. Athens in 2022 is chaotic, taken over by a dangerous riot. And two young lovers, reincarnations of the ancients, speak of the Ancient Greek types of love: Eros, Filia, Filoxenia, Philautia, Storgi, Pragma and the ultimate: Agapi. Self-love, erotic love, and the love of the stranger all collide with marble statues of Aphrodite, protestor's chants and the Parthenon's steps. In Agapi & Other Kinds of Love, Greek-Australian poet Luka Lesson, inspired by Plato's Symposium, draws on his heritage to show us how love prevails despite the trials and tribulations of the ages.
