This book uses a method of reading by understanding letter patterns common to most words in the English language. When an individual reads by understanding letter patterns, ownership and control of reading and language is taken by the reader. Reading by recognizing letter patterns provides an organized baseline and reference of the mind as the tool for decoding newly encountered words. Reading by understanding is for the young beginning reader as well as an established reader who simply needs to add understanding to what (s)he has seen. Passivity in decoding is thereby voided and confidence can rule. The words in this book are central to this method and are among the most common in a child's vocabulary. Children will have likely heard or used many of the words in this book. The more often this book is reviewed by the child, the stronger the neuronal pathways, the larger the connections, and the bigger the imprint of the reader's reference base.
