Two families show just how far they are willing to go to make their dreams a reality in Up There to Step, a play by Congo native Peddar Panga. David Schumerman Jr. is determined to marry Lynette Zibo. Prejudiced toward the black girl, David's mother Linzi moves the family to her brother's town of Aerosanam in an attempt to separate the young couple, but the plan fails when Lynette follows them. David must act fast when he's targeted by Arketta Yavanov, a rich woman pushing the seventeen-year-old boy to marry her seventy-year-old mom. All Arketta's mother knows is that God told her to marry a David Schumerman, and David and his dad David Schumerman Sr. are the only two in town. The Schumermans nearly splinter apart as Arketta's plots and tricks to get what she wants turn family member against family member. Linzi has schemes of her own, and she's just as determined to get her own way. Will determination be enough, or will Arketta's wealth win in the end?
