This is my story of the abuse that I suffered in a 23-year marriage. I wrote this book for you or for someone in your family, or for someone you work with, or someone you know at your church or school, or perhaps your next-door neighbor. I wrote this book to bring awareness to perhaps the most devastating and least discussed forms of domestic violence - the non-physical acts such as verbal, mental, and emotional abuse. These are the abuses that leave no bruises. They are often not accompanied with alcohol abuse. And even though there is "No bottle, no bruises," the lasting pain and suffering continues generation after generation. This book is merely my story, my truth, my observations and my own learning. I hope it will help us all become more aware and recognize these forms of abuse that are so hidden and secretive. Domestic violence and abuse will only cease when the cycle is broken by education, understanding, treatment and relief for the pain that abusers feel. I hope that by speaking out, I can help end the cycle.
