In his earlier memoirs, Roman is conscripted into the Russian Red Army and, later, put into hard labour. Eventually he escapes to join General Anders' newly formed Polish Army in Guzar. This volume follows Roman's journey from east to west: from Krasnovodsk's overloaded ship on the Caspian Sea, through Persia's mountains, onto ships and trains that take him to India, Africa, Great Britain and Canada as one of 2,000 Polish Air Force Volunteers. An addendum contains his diary entries. This volume describes new experiences in new lands, as well as his country's fate and its effect on the men as they engage in air force training and exams, learn a new language, and date the local girls. Like so many other veterans from Poland, politics and war came to define Roman's life. His memoirs describe the outcome of a young man whom history plucked from his intended path and blew far, far, off course.
