Making a Rapist, is based on a true story drawn from a dozen interviews and hundreds of pages of documents. While spending 54 months in prison for a crime he did not commit, Luther Stidham filed several motions of actual innocence against Brunswick County, NC., and several individuals involved with his arrest. Shortly after, however, Stidham found himself up against some North Carolina's most corrupt and powerful government officials. While being incarcerated for just over 13 months, Stidham's family discovered several documents, recordings and forensics that, among proving his innocence, also suggested that even his own his defense attorney, Mike Ramos had conspired with the prosecutor, Meredith Everhart and the NC State Bureau of Investigation in order to orchestrate a conviction against Stidham. But that's not the end of the story. The Stidham family presented the evidence to NC Attorney General Roy Cooper who utterly refused to entertain the notion that the NC SBI botched their investigation against Stidham in order to bolster the prosecutor's case. Neither Cooper nor the NC SBI were interested in investigating Stidham's allegations so Stidham took on his own concept to write about his story, which he hopes will generate plenty of publicity and prompt petitions to have his case reviewed, though officials in Brunswick County, NC., stand ready to stop Stidham's case from reaching the higher courts - at all cost.
