*** !TRUMP! ***: In Three Acts

Of all the domestic elected individuals who have(had) made themselves ripe for political satire, Donald J. Trump certainly is one of the more fecund. His voluminous official pronouncements via tweets and sometimes undisciplined public comments have yield a bumper crop of send-ups and stand-ups. The thematic arc of *** !TRUMP! *** is based, therefore, upon actual political events and notable public figures, the media's reports of which have provided starting points. The numerous seeded exact quotes are embellishments; their origins left as an exercise for the reader. This three-act play is envisioned as an eventual operetta, in part a take-off on the music heard at political events to animate supporters. Whereas several classic opera/operetta themes are explicitly called for (or implied) the bulk of the dialogue is rhythmic verse, forgoing melody. Any musical treatment needs to be imagined by the reader. Action and stage direction is included for inspiration. The play's actual closing curtain is in the future. More characters and events - some foreseeable, many not - worthy of satire are bound to appear upon the world's stage. The election of November 2020, not his impeachment in 2019, would seem to be the fitting climactic. However, even that is only partially anticipatory. Much more is sure to unfold thereafter, whatever the determination of the electorate.
