Melvin is the story of a little sandpiper who has suffered from a lifelong disability. However, like many who suffer disabilities, he has developed other skills that more than make up for any shortcomings. Melvin's greatest challenge comes when he must make a life-death decision: Should he, with his special skill, attempt to save the bully of the beach, who has been mean to him, or should he let the bully drown?
