Alien Intentions

A camping trip to Yosemite National Park by two college couples provides much more excitement than they anticipated when they are contacted by an extraterrestrial via some mental mode that they don't understand. The alien tells them that their planet is doomed unless they can uncover the plot and set things right. Though the story is so far-fetched that they don't fully believe it, the alien offers to boost their intelligence level that is beyond all their beliefs, but after the encounter they conduct a simple experiment that proves that the alien had been truthful, at least in that respect. They find it enthralling to be able to design things that beyond others, and in short order they found themselves wealthier than any had ever dreamed. After two years they still had not found anything to support the alien's claim that the earth was on the road to annihilation. One of the group had an idea for a computer which operated of brain waves. He had been working n the project almost continually for the two years and once he finished with the prototype and tried it out on his companions they all realized that it was a quantum leap in the technological area and they set up a manufacturing facility to produce the new computers. After a demonstration for the news networks they were back ordered from the start. Their discovery that one of the wealthiest men on the planet was having them watched around the clock they confronted the man. He had also been in contact with one of the aliens some forty years earlier and was given the enhanced intelligence which allowed him to amass a huge fortune. His only request from 'his' alien was to watch for someone like the four to make an appearance. Both of the aliens accused the other of trying to destroy the planet, and both had valid arguments that it was the other. The part the computer technology played in the scheme helped them to choose which alien to believe. Once that decision was made they still had to find a way to stop their alien from going forward with this plans. The story is not hardcore science fiction, but has enough to enhance the storyline.
