A girl from a small town in Maine rediscovers diamond nuggets from a gravel ridge on her inherited property, later proven to have originated in Quebec and transported south during the ice age more than 12,000 years earlier. Learning the ice age diamonds were relocated from one aboriginal homeland [Quebec's Inuit and Cree] to another [Maine's Wabanakis], and instilled with a strong sense for sharing of valuables, she sets off on a quest to find a legal means to restore a fair share of ownership among today's aboriginals.She soon becomes reacquainted with a high school friend, who is now in the pipeline business and engaged in a Quebec-based project. Together, they explore the aboriginal lands and people of the far north as well as northern New England. With the help of Canadian and Native American attorneys and the aid of a foundation grant, she eventually lays the groundwork for the creation of an Ice Age Trust Fund and drafts legislative and regulatory mechanisms to ensure any future discoveries of such alluvial treasures will be shared equally across borders.
