Echoes Of Life: A Collection Of Short Stories

This is my second book of short stories. Two of the four stories in this book are autobiographical. Echoes are a close parallel or repetition of an idea, feeling, style or event. These are my Echoes, which continue to reverberate in my mind. The first story "Echoes From My Childhood," is my memory of the major events of my Childhood through my graduation from High School. By today's standards, my childhood was unbelievable. However, although my memory may be a little flawed in a few occasions, everything I wrote happened. This story gives the reader a slice of life in the fifties. It was a different world then, No one locked their doors. Some Twelve-year old guys worked. A young fellow could walk home at midnight without fear of anything but maybe mean dogs. Elvis took the world by storm. Two people could go to the movies, pay admission and buy Cokes and popcorn for under a dollar. Sandwiches in restaurants cost from 15 cents to 35 cents. Gas was 20 to 30 cents a gallon. It was simply a different world and, in this story, it was my world. The second story, "Chirp Chirp," is a dark tale similar to Edgar Allen Poe's stories. This story chronicles the complete undoing of a man's life. He is unaware that he is slowly going insane. The driving force of that insanity is a little black bird Chirping on his window sill in his bedroom. You will be surprised on why that little black bird is Chirping. The Third Story, "Shine on Harvest Moon," is a love story set in the year 2040. Robert Morgan, after losing his once in a life time true love in college, reunites with her while on a vacation trip to the Moon. It is generally believed that by 2040 tourists' trips to the Moon will be common. This tale also brings science fiction into the events. It operates on the principle that True Love is everlasting on earth and in space. The final story is also autobiographical. I tell my true story of the improbable and almost impossible events leading up to and occurring when I went to college. Against all odds, I made it. This is a slice of life in the early 60's. John F. Kennedy was President. Castro's Cuba and Russia were a threat. There were no drugs on campus. The Professors taught subjects, not politics. There were plenty of Virgins, both male and female walking around. No one ever heard of mass shootings. A college student's big vices were smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. It was a much simpler, and I think a better time. There were no computers. We got our news from newspapers, and the three networks evening news.I hope you enjoy my Book "Echoes of Life."
