As the state of Alabama prepares to celebrate its bicentennial (officially admitted as the 22nd state on December 14, 1819) so does Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Leeds, Alabama. The rugged pioneers who settled Alabama brought with them a longing to worship the God of their father's, in community with other believers. The small band of families who made their way into the upper valley of the Little Cahaba River, near current day Leeds, began worshiping together once a month, as early as 1818. Then, with the leadership of Baptist evangelist and missionary Hosea Holcomb, six men and six women met and officially formed Hebron Church on August 22, 1819.Through two centuries of trials and struggles, successes and failures, God continues to shine a light in the Cahaba Valley through the faithful ministry of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. May His light continue to shine for many years.
