It's 1993.With bad actors on his trail, a Hopi Indian cab driver motors Maui artist Gille Barker and an illusive Albert Einstein from Winslow, Arizona to New Orleans' French Quarter in search of a satchel's mysterious contents and the secret to life's design.Jeff Lightfoot is a jangly spirit, an Indian raised on a Hopi reservation north of Winslow, Arizona, where he now leads an offbeat existence as the town's only cab driver. On an errand requiring he deliver the contents of a satchel to nearby Flagstaff, Lightfoot's path crosses that of a drug-dealing sociopath and his hatchet man. In a mix-up, Lightfoot returns to Winslow with the drug dealers satchel.Gille Barker is an artist from Maui, just released from Winslow prison after serving three years on a trumped-up charge. Picked up at the prison gate by Lightfoot, Gille is delivered to Winslow's La Posada Hotel where he has a reservation for his first night as a free man. It's only mildly surprising to Gille when he awakes in the middle of that first night to see Albert Einstein sitting in a lounge chair at the foot of his bed--after all, even as a child Gille hadn't found late night visits by alien beings intrusive. When the drug dealer and his hatchet man come to Winslow looking for Lightfoot, he approaches Gille Barker for help. Lightfoot tells a story Gille finds suspect--that he had taken the drug dealer's satchel by accident and delivered it to the home of the person who had hired him to take a similar satchel to Flagstaff. Lightfoot assures Gille it will only take minutes to recover the briefcase and return it to its rightful owner. At the urging of an old friend, Gille decides to help in what turns out to be a surreal three day cross-country trip into the world of magical realism. 'Thought provoking, disturbingly funny, and downright addictive.'Magical realism, urban fantasy, satire 275pges, 86000words,
