Every book I have ever read on missions, and especially about short-term mission trips, have all been written from an administrative point of view. Those books are very much needed. The mission field is full of organized people with the gift of administration who know how to structure and execute a plan. They are willing to tell us all how to organize our trips, our evangelism, our quiet times, and our faith. However, I often find myself to be the only "Pastor" in a mission environment, surrounded by administrators who are so organized that they are often oblivious to the actual needs of people. They can organize any outreach program or service project, but if a staff member has a marriage problem they run and hide. So this book is written from the "Heart of a Pastor" with Biblical teaching, and is not restricted by denominational or doctrinal preferences. This book is solidly Evangelical. This is an interesting, engaging and story-filled look at missions. It is a result of my 25 years of mistakes, successes and lessons learned. Short-term mission trips have become a multi Billion dollar industry in North America. For nearly 2000 years the entire focus of missionary work has been to reach the LOST. In the past 60 years the purpose of short-term mission trips has slowly changed and become focused on the TEAM going on the trip, not the LOST being reached out to. That focus needs to be reversed and biblical priorities re-instated. Jesus Himself was called "The Good Shepherd." This book puts "Shepherding" back in Missions where it belongs.
