The story starts out in the writer's little homeland island of Jamaica, in the Caribbean, and takes readers on a journey to and through Canada, where the protagonist faced unkind and uncertain, but ultimately rewarding circumstances. On the journey the writer encountered numerous signs, usually in the form of numbers, and these were used to navigate her way to becoming a permanent resident.
