After returning from service, Mike like countless other veterans had to acclimate back into a society which wasn't necessarily war veteran friendly. Subsequently, Michael struggled with the effects of culture shock without of any type of debriefing. This type of residual internal combat led to drug addiction, rehabilitation centers, imprisonment, homelessness and a plethora of challenges.
