The Opportunists

In the mid 1980s, Matt Holland and his family leave the UK for Swaziland, in war- torn Southern Africa, where he works on a government aid project. In attempting to improve his family's security, he agrees to act as a spy for shifty British diplomat, Graeme Gibson. As embattled Matt struggles with his own personal demons, his world spirals into a coup attempt along with troubled businessman Danny Hertzberg with whom his wife, Nozizwe, Matt has an affair. When the coup attempt fails, Matt discovers they were duped by Graeme and he sets about uncovering the truth, but he is up against agents of the state who try to kill him. He flees the country, but Matt's life falls apart when he learns he has contracted Aids from Nozizwe. His marriage crumbles, the agents are still after him. Will he survive? Will a courageous Doctor Helen Cookson succeed in helping rebuild his life and live to see a suppressed nation's people realise their long held dream of democracy?
