Rebecca J. Storey's Sammy Squirrel is an entertaining work about a little squirrel named Sammy. Sammy lives in a pine tree behind Grandpa's house. He has lots of friends he likes to visit with, play with, and share with. Charlie Chickadee and Billy Blue Jay are his two best friends. Sammy and all of the different birds like to share the sunflower seeds that Grandpa puts in the bird feeders. In additions to his bird friends, Sammy also plays with his cousin Steven Squirrel. They climb and jump and play hide-and-seek. After they are done, they make sure to go eat some more of the sunflower seeds that Grandpa has put out for them and the birds. Sammy has a lot of good friends and a nice home, as well as someone to take care of him. He has a good life. Sammy Squirrel is a piece that tells an entertaining story that aims to show children the importance of taking care of animals as well as the importance of friends.
