In the year 2059, the world has undergone several different conflicts, the worst of which was a catastrophic, global biological war. In this war, almost a third of humanity was killed by tailored, weaponized viruses. Almost all companion animals were destroyed and at least two thirds of protein animals were affected in ways unexpected or killed off completely. Sky Naysmith, a kid of eighteen and a scavenger in the ruined streets of New Orleans, is just trying to keep himself and his aging mother alive. Unhappily, he finds himself becoming a part of a larger resistance movement against the FED--The Federated Euro-American Democracies--an evil hegemony responsible for most of the planet''s anguish. He is forcefully plunged into a deeper, darker and more complicated world than he had ever thought could exist. Under the guidance of an old Rabbi-Doctor--Saul Solstein-- and his team of renegade doctors, epidemiologists and warriors, Sky becomes an unlikely hero imbedded with the forces that are fighting to save a very sick world. What Sky doesn't know at first is that his true value is that he is an immune, unaffected by any of the bio-weapons that had been let loose. His survival means a great deal to the forces on both sides of the fight. On his journey further into the underground resistance, he meets another immune, Samantha D'Arguelo. Together, they find themselves working closely on a larger, more complicated and perilous mission to help save those left suffering on a dying Earth. But danger lurks everywhere, not just on Earth. Not only is their planet ecologically and economically near complete collapse, there are other very dark forces at work elsewhere that are trying to thwart them and their compatriots in their mission.
