Love and loss, sex and skullduggery, conquests, failures and foibles - these are the elements of calypso, stories in song that personify the islands of the West Indies. In Stone Cold Dead in de Market, a naked body sits in the marketplace while five tourists sweat out the consequences on a balcony above. In Will His Love Be Like His Rum?, a nervous bridegroom locks himself in a closet as his pretty new wife tries to coax him to their wedding bed. In Mama Eu Quero, a young woman is plucked from the American Midwest and whisked into a wild and wicked Oz called Havana during the early days of the Cuban Revolution. In All Day, All Night, Marianne, a young man hopes to woo his true love in the classic manner before a fat lady sings. Other stories tell of buried treasure, kidnapping, sea monsters, parrot lust and the dangers of breaking Christmas tradition.
