The apostle Paul wrote this book to the church at the Philippi for the express purpose of thanking them for a monitory gift they sent to him while he was in a Roman prison. The letter is not intended to correct them for any misbehavior on their part, but to express his deep love and appreciation for them. In the midst of all of his kind words he discusses several ways the Christian's lifestyle should differ from the way lost people live. He does this, almost incidentally, with love, patience, and understanding. He does not expect perfection in his fellow Christians. Rather, he wishes them to grow in Christ-likeness day by day.
