A Legacy of Secrecy and Atrocities: Government Experiments on Humans and Animals

After World War II, the CIA secretly recruited high-level Nazi scientists and doctors to help conduct secret experiments. Agency operants scoured many parts of the world in search for a truth drug (TD). The CIA introduced LSD into the United States. When that failed as a TD, they conducted more experiments -- using thousands of unwitting subjects as well as on animals. The Atomic Energy Commission detonated dozens of nuclear weapons in Nevada while conducting experiments with animals and soldiers. Many of these "guinea pigs" -- as well as those downwind in Utah -- contacted cancer. Nuclear tests were also conducted in the Marshall Islands. Even though their residents had been forcibly relocated, many contacted cancer and subsequently died.
