Twenty-Nine Lives To Live concerns a woman who has lived for a long time with a congenital (birth) heart defect. The author tells her story in easy-to-understand language, and also talks briefly about some other heart birth defects. Her primary goal is to educate the public about some kinds of heart defects that babies are born with, and the fact that they often can live for a long time. She also shares some of her personal experiences in life, including some of her travels, which did not adversely affect her condition. Today, many babies survive heart surgery. Some children and also some adults require more than one surgery. Often adults are able to work and travel, because today's technology helps them to overcome many of their challenges. Many times these people become nurses who work with pediatric or adult cardiology patients. The author desires to encourage parents of children who were born with heart problems, because many kids can live into adulthood with proper pediatric care from cardiology specialists. Like Dick Cheney, the author survives with an lvad (heart pump), feels very well and is able to do a lot. One woman who had the same heart birth defect as the author lived to age 92.
