Sheila Makinski's world is shaken the day her sister Abbey is born. She'd gloried in the love and attention of her parents and grandmother and now feels threatened by Abbey's presence. Abbey, a sickly, timid child learns early to stay out of the way of the strong-willed, quick tempered, demanding Sheila. His whole life focuses on one desire--to raise a son who will fulfill his dreams. Jayne Makinski's days are spent trying to appease John, keep a spotless house and keep peace between Sheila and Abbey. In spite of her best efforts and prayers, the family spirals into a dangerous state of dysfunction.
