Mr. McMiller realized that you don't choose your place of origin, but you can determine what you become in life. Being raised on the south side of Chicago Ron decided to make a change in the world, irrespective of where he has come from. He admits that he did not achieve much, but is proud of the fact that coming from the Southside of Chicago has not stopped him from fulfilling his dream, in fact, CHICAGO DEVELOPED HIM. Ron had a childhood dream of defending his country and becoming a Naval Officer. That choice has had its share of life's vicissitudes, but amidst his mixed feelings that pervaded a humble beginning, he was afforded the chance. After his street luck ran out, and as he stood in front of the judge, he was strongly persuaded by a Chicago police officer of Joining the Navy. So at the age 18 of years old, he joined the United States Navy. In his book, he describes how Chicago Developed Him and The Navy made him a Man. He speaks of the challenges he faced through his lens of life. Ron was raised by two families, his mother, and his street family. He writes about his near life-changing events that have not allowed him to be deterred by his background with its attendant history of poverty, violence, and lawlessness. He writes about how his battles were not of weapons, but the mind, challenging himself that nothing is impossible. His tour in the Navy made him a man as he writes about the countries, leaders, and mentors that have helped shape and mold him into the man he is today. His book "Chicago Developed Me," "The Navy made me a Man" is a memoir that will hit home it shows a true love for his country and family.
