In 1807, the American system of government began replacing the old Spanish post system. The Spanish era commandant position became the parish judge, the alcolades became the Police Jury. This book is one of the most detailed histories of Avoyelles, this book covers every aspect of Avoyelles Parish Government, Schools, and organizations from 1807 until 1907. Several hundred photographs are included.
