When conservative journalist Grace Brinkley is unexpectedly laid off from the Seattle newspaper where she works, she is forced to take a temporary job writing fortunes for a fortune cookie company just to pay the mortgage. As if that weren't humiliating enough, she must also deal with Ben Reed, the fortune cookie company's admittedly gorgeous but apparently ill-mannered tax attorney, after Grace inadvertently commits the mother of all social transgressions in his presence. To make matters even worse, someone at the company is anonymously leaving fortune cookies on Grace's desk containing fortunes she thinks are meant to tell her something-but what?
