It's a new cover, but it tells the same great story about the bond that develops between a horse and his trainer. I have over 500 horse racing books, and I rank it as one of the best - Jaques Van Landuyt With the help of a colt nobody wanted, a horse-crazy girl from the suburbs made history in 1992 when Casual Lies competed in the 118th running of the Kentucky Derby.
This memoir is far more than recounting one horse's racing career. Trainer Shelley Riley guides us down her life path from horse-obsessed girl to history-making woman, who in 1992 up-ended a male-dominated sport by becoming the first of her gender to saddle a starter in all three American Triple Crown races. The head-strong, charismatic horse who took her there was Casual Lies, a $7,500 auction bargain.
