What are Nursing Procedures? Are they limited to RNs? There are hundreds of nursing procedures that a nurse should know, and more of these procedures are continually created as new technologies are implemented in the field of healthcare. Research has shown that majority of these nursing procedures are never performed by an individual nurse due to the many divisions of the nursing profession. A nurse who works in a geriatric clinic may never participate in cardiac catheterization or a utilization review nurse may never perform an OASIS assessment. In the ever changing and dynamic provision of healthcare, a nurse may attain practice experience or continuing education in some nursing procedures that he or she has never performed.
