The novel encircle around the events of the World War II in 1942, when the Nazis were fighting with the Allied Forces in the Desert of Sahara. The entire story focuses on two soldiers, Captain Adam Rayan and Lieutenant Zayn Danyal of the 7th British Subcontinent Division of 12th Brigade of the British Army. The major portion of the novel deals with how both of the soldiers manages to escape from the Nazi occupied areas and how during their secret operations they come across compassionate inhabitants of the land. The inhabitants of Sahara not only provide them shelter and food, but every possible support. It is the bitter experience of their life that make both soldiers get rid of their disillusioned state, abandon their allegiance to the British while establishing their own identity, and discovering the true worth of their existence. On their journey back home from Libya through Iraq, they take part in an Iraqi guerrilla war in which the Lieutenant is killed and Captain Rayan manages to reach his homeland with his bride.
