My son, Christopher, was born with a congenital heart condition called Pulmonary Atresia with VSD. This is a serious, but surgically correctable condition. A sodium-free diet was necessary immediately after surgery, and reduced sodium was an on-going recommendation. I found that most recipes were easily converted to low sodium versions by simply leaving out the added salt or by substituting equivalent fresh ingredients for those that have been prepared using added salt. As Chris has now grown into an independent adult responsible for his own health maintenance, sharing my experience with others who find themselves in a similar situation has been a natural next step for me to take.
