Trusting God's Promises: Genesis 12-36

Here in Book II of the Schoolmaster's Study Series we learn that God chose and prepared a special people to accomplish a cosmic purpose. Against the backdrop of the great war of the ages (See Genesis 3:15), God gave Abraham and his offspring two promises; a home and a Messiah that will bless the whole world. In this precious story recorded by Moses, the Spirit of Truth reveals the blessings of trusting God's promises wholeheartedly. We who are Christ followers know "He has granted to us his precious and very great promises" (2 Peter 1:4). As we watch God challenge the Israelites to discern and forsake the world's temptation and hold onto the matchless promises of God, we will find encouragement to hold onto God's promises ourselves as we assume our place and share the ultimate victory in the same great war of the ages. The Spirit teaches us that "Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians 7:1).
