"Well, if she needs practice, I'll have plenty of it for her, won't I?" he laughed through the coughs. "Did I ever tell you I use to know someone named Laurane? She was a great friend. We would stay up talking to each other on the phone for nights on end. But that my child was a lifetime ago.
