Dream Vacation Getaway

Brenner, a police investigator, fears that his partner, Katrina, has encountered danger while she is undercover in Durham, North Carolina. They had secretly agreed to investigate a vacation-spa company against their chief's orders. Brenner's grandma had died while on vacation, along with others within a short period of time. The chief believed that it was coincidence. Now, Katrina had not contacted Brenner after going undercover. Why did no vacationer remember anything except faded flashes of foamy waves?
