Wetland loss in coastal Louisiana has been such an important environmental and economic issue that decades of scientific research have been dedicated to the topic since the trend was first recognized in the late 1960s. In support of that effort, the U.S. Geological Survey has been conducting research directed toward a better understanding of the physical processes and human activities that contribute to wetland loss and the timing of that loss.
