This novel is the third in the Para-Earth series, and is the first to focus on a human from this reality going into one of those parallel realities where evolution took a very different turn. Nathan Steward, serving in the Union Army finds himself blown into that Para-Earth where he encounters two very unusual life forms. One (the Blood Slime) fights to keep him alive, while another (the Ghoul Slime) is bent on killing and absorbing his remains. After bonding with the Blood Slime, Nathan manages to escape from that Para-Earth and return to his own reality. Only now he finds that the union with the Blood Slime has made him into basically a living vampyre. He needs blood, must sleep in the ground, and avoid sunlight. But he is also practically ageless.After spending the next 150 years wander the Earth and touching the lives of others, he finally returns to his hometown of Pointer, West Virginia to save his family's mansion and its 1000 acres of pristine land from developers.Unknown to him, the Ghoul Slime has finally managed to break into this reality and is hunting him. Leading to an incredible final battle that will decide not on Nathan's fate, but that of those who have come to consider him the dark guardian angel who has watched over their families for almost 150 years.
