English/Spanish introduction: This is a book of the genealogy of the surname Saint-Hilaire in Dominican Republic. The author goes back to a very remote past to trace the surname Saint-Hilaire and transports us to recognize its origin in exquisite places of France. From its geographical location, it evokes characters from history, especially French, who held the surname Saint-Hilaire and traces a brief biographical profile of the Saint-Hilaire, figures of the Catholic Church from whose worship came the patronymic, at the time that offers data on the homonymous village and it recreates, with the proper documental basis, the origin of the surname on Dominican soil. Interesting is its conclusion that the surname Saint-Hilaire on the island of Santo Domingo not back to Leclerc expedition in 1802, but is very previous to that fact. To support his thesis, the author rummaged in the literature about the traumatic episode of the Basel Treaty, under which Spain ceded to France the eastern part of La Espa?ola island, checking in addition material on the revolution of the slaves in Saint Domingue in 1791, the first Haitian invasions in 1801 and 1805 and its consequences; the period of the Boba Spain and the occupation of the island by the Haitians. Under cover of this historical context, came a remarkable mobilization of families towards the eastern part of the island, giving rise to a new social, political and economic scheme in what years later would be the Dominican Republic.
