The Sands of Time: Life With and Life After Pinky

It's a real awakening to find yourself all alone after 45 years of marriage. Just when everything seems to be going so well, the wind gets taken right out of your sails. All you have left is the memories and "artifacts" of the one you shared your life with for so many years. What I'd like to share with you is some of those memories of which I'm sure you can relate to. During our lives we will meet many people. Some will just become casual acquaintances while others will become close friends. Our memories will be formed by our relationship with these friends through the different events that occur, such as weddings, divorces, births, deaths, sporting events, family gatherings and all the other activities that occur during our lifetime. In this book, I will describe some of these events and what they meant to us in short stories and in verse. Perhaps you will have some of those same memories that you can relate to and remember how you felt at the time. Also in this book, I will talk about a different kind of friendship - one with animals. It is also another way in which we can remember certain periods of our lives. We can relate to the animal we had during that period. Each helped to define that time in our lives, and what makes this friendship different is that it's a more personal and private kind of relationship. Do you think I'm wrong? When was the last time a friend of yours sat on the side of the tub while you were bathing, or sat on the vanity you while you were on the toilet? How much more personal can it get? Wait a minute - having sex while your dog is at the bottom of the bed. Now, that's as personal as it can get, and we don't even give it a second thought. Anyway, you get the picture. These bonds grow over the years and during a lifetime of having pets, which I call friends. Now we can look back and cherish all those moments that make for a lifetime of memories. This book is about those moments and other events in our lives that make for great and sometimes sad memories, but such is life. I'm sure as you read you'll be able to recall some of the feelings and emotions that go along with those memories. You might even ask yourself, why is he writing this book? That's a very good question, but the answer is simple. As we travel through the many phases in our lifetime, we meet very few people who make a difference, not only in our lives, but also in those of the people around us. I'm talking about that special person whom everyone wants to be around, the one whom you want at your graduation, high school play or concert, party, or wedding, that special person with the "magnetism" that draws everyone close and allows them to be part of a special bond. Pinky was that person, and that's why I'm writing this book. It's for her.
