Lowell is a messenger. He stands alone, watching with detached interest as the world wastes away around him. Armed with an uncanny ability to blend with nearly any surroundings and become unseen in plain view, he collects and catalogs his observations on the sordid and destructive ways men live their lives. After Lowell witnesses a murder while walking home from work one evening, the event becomes an anchor for him to cling to as his life suddenly begins to unravel at an alarming rate. But even as he retreats further into the seeming safety of his mind, the anchor threatens to tear him loose and carry him to depths from which he cannot hope to escape.
