"We're going home, Raff. We're always going home." There are many things that Rafferty does not understand, which in itself is understandable given his amnesia and the strangeness of the world he has woken into. There are people telling him that he is something known as 'the Verdict' and that there is some decision he has to make because of that. He is told he must go on a journey that he has been on many times before with people he does not remember but who he has known for longer than this journey has existed. He is attacked by creatures he cannot comprehend for reasons given to him that are never quite true. Even with all of this that he is thrown into with little or no explanation, Rafferty learns. The Semblance are relentless. The city leaders do not have his best interests in mind. The key roles have a depth to them that cannot be fully realized on this or any of the other journeys. And nothing is as it seems.
