Up to Jerusalem: Psalms for Ascending: Second Edition

As we read the Psalms from Book V, which contains Psalms 107-150, we encounter the section including chapters 120-134, every one of which is designated a Psalm of Ascents. Each Psalm marks a milestone in our spiritual journey. This series of 15 Psalms was written as marching songs the early citizens of Israel would recite as they made their way to Jerusalem for the annual religious festivals. These chapters are likely entitled in your Bible as Psalms of Ascent. You should be aware that Jerusalem is geographically elevated above the surrounding region. It is the highest point in the land. Therefore, no matter from whence one travels, he goes up to Jerusalem. Hence, the title: Psalms of Ascent.
