The project will provide a reliable supply of renewable energy, while at the same time helping to control periodic flooding of the lake's surrounding areas. The Ilopango- Aguacayo hydropower project is a high priority project that would support the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas and the Partnership for Growth initiative with El Salvador.
