On November 25, 2002, President George W. Bush signed into law the Homeland Security Act of 2002. One provision of this Act abolished the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and created two new bureaus, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which moved to the Department of Justice, and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, which remained in the Department of Treasury.
