Tracing lives, loves, and aspirations of English Gypsies arriving in mid-nineteenth century America, CARAVAN OF DREAMS is a rare insider's view of a mysterious culture, a love story, an uneasy truce with wealth garnered from the Civil War, a mother's excruciating bereavement, and the emotional cost of loss and injury.Searching for freedom to roam, Victoria's English Gypsy family comes to America and establishes themselves as horse traders. Traveling the hills of North Carolina, they encounter Prince Williams, a dashing Gypsy with a charming moustache. Seventeen-year old Victoria, her budding skill as a healer and visionary added to her family's prominence, has despaired of finding a suitable husband at this late age. To her delight, a match is made, and a traditional wedding unites the two. Thus Prince and Victoria begin their life, ranging the Eastern coast from Canada to Georgia, raising nine children, and developing a solid reputation as preeminent horse dealers. Even Victoria is unable to foresee the coming grief, pain, and loss that will shape their family's future.Based on historical records, CARAVAN OF DREAMS is an immigrant's story, an English Gypsy tale, Victoria's saga, or the life of any wife and mother. And all of these.
