The Streets of Grants Pass, Oregon - 2014: 7th Street from Evelyn Avenue to I-5, Morgan Lane and Vine Street

This is not a history, although it is published by the Josephine County Historical Society. Today, tomorrow and even yesterday fade from memory quickly. Recently when looking for photos of Grants Pass from the 1880s and 1890s and then even from the 1980s and 1990s, I discovered that none could be found of many of the places I remember as a child. Common, everyday buildings were not photographed or if they were, nobody bothered to give the photos to the Historical Society for future reference. Yes, there are many photos, some wonderful memories of days gone by, but there are many more gaps in our photographic history.This book covers 7th Street from the Evelyn Avenue to the I-5 freeway. Until the late 1950s, 7th Street was not a primary street in Grants Pass. It extended from M Street to about Savage Street. When the second bridge was built, Highway 99 was no longer just 6th Street. 6th Street became the southbound portion of Hwy 99 through Grants Pass, and 7th Street was the northbound portion of Hwy. 99. Within a decade, the freeway, I-5, opened and Grants Pass was no longer on the "main highway." At the end of this book, there are some of my memories of Hwy. 99.
