The book starts with our liberty interests in common. Yes we have some - but our guards (our lawmakers) restrict even these. Democracy does not guarantee freedom! The book ends with a solution to this problem - how we can restrict our democracy guards to doing only what WE ALL want. Assuming no one wants to obtain impoverished liberty, we as voters want 'guards' who will not make a mess of our economy. The in-between Chapters deal with this want - how best we can obtain prosperity. These Chapters, in everyday words, explain all that any government can do to maximise our prosperity. So only for purposes of this brief outline, think of our economy as a wheel, and each of us as a spoke in this wheel, and our government 'guards' as the hub. For all we 'spokes' to be as prosperous as our times will allow, we, as voters, need our 'wheel' to create prosperity, and this needs a 'hub' which wants our prosperity to be maximised. For any wheel to keep spinning no spoke can bear more than its share of the weight. So the book does what others ignore - it integrates ownership effects into its coverage of the trade cycle, inflation, deflation, banks, foreign trade, wage relativity between nations, even welfare state issues so tax and government debt. You will even find the real cause of the 2007 onwards "financial crash". Facts expose those who actually caused this unnecessary misery. Overall, this book's liberty and prosperity interlinkage makes clear what we need if we are to become as free and prosperous as our time will permit. GUARD OF THE GUARDS ends with the GUARD we must have if we are to preserve freedom in our community. No other book so clearly cross-relates political and economic life.
