PERGAMOS: HELL'S BOOT CAMP! Pergamos was one of the Seven Churches of the Book of Revelation, and according to Revelation 2:13. Antipas was martyred, and it is believed he was the first Christian to be put to death by Roman state because "Satan's throne" was there. There were four temples in the city. The great gods were Zeus, Dioysus, Athena and Asklepios. Pergamos can easily be called Hell's Boot Camp, and some say it was Hell's Headquarters. Christians were persecuted because they worshipped Jesus Christ as Lord, and not the idol gods in the temples, nor did they worshipped the Emperor as lord. "The city bore the title "Thrice Neokoros" meaning that in the city 3 temples had been built for the Roman emperors, in which the emperors were worshipped as gods." (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) History recorded Domitian, who was emperor form 81 to 96 in the first century, was the first Roman emperor who demand to be worship as a god. It is believed by many during Domitian's rule that the apostle John was exiled, or banished to the island of Patmos "for the word of God"
