A teenage boy finds himself the object of the love and passion of a supreme being. As we follow him through his struggle to grow up and come to terms with his passion, we see him become a man questioning his fate and taking control of his life, while walking the delicate line between the natural and supernatural worlds. This novel is a re-imagination of the myth of Venus and Adonis, which is well-known from Ancient Greek and Roman sources. There are, however, many other versions of this myth attested in the literature and art of different cultures from the Middle East and the Mediterranean basin. Whether called 'Tammuz', 'Dumuzi' or 'Adonis', this mythological figure is invariably a mortal turned fertility god, beloved of the goddess of love and related to the growth of vegetation and the turning of the seasons. Where did this myth originate and how did it become so wide-spread among the cultures of the ancient world? This work of fiction is written from the point of view of the mortal and follows his experiences. Addressing the question of destiny versus free will, this book is also an investigation of the interaction the world of man and the world of the gods of the ancients. How can a boy become a god? Why would he choose to? Who would want him to and why? Who would not? The answers to these questions are addressed in this a mix of historical fiction, a modern coming-of-age novel and literary fantasy.
