Politicians From Hell: An essay on the politics of poverty

British populist politicians have alway distinguished between the 'deserving' and 'undeserving' poor and set one group against the other.Often 'the decent hard working majority' is set against both groups.Poverty is also often seen in terms of fecklessness and moral degeneracy rather than economic fluctuations and lack of skills in the poorest groups.This has been done with several motives in mind.Some populist politicians have seen a way to impose their 'model' of how society should be controlled by the state.Some have denigrated the 'undeserving' to justify cuts in welfare.We look at the words and deeds of some current British politicans in the poverty arena.This essay also looks at some of the current populist 'games' being played as Britain approaches the 2015 General Election and compares the true facts concerning our poorest, and most inadequate families with the cruel mythology.
